Track a Parcel or Item

Royal Mail · Parcelforce Worldwide · DPD · Evri

Posted an item with tracking, or waiting on a delivery? Tracking is run by each carrier, so you need the reference number from your Post Office receipt or from the retailer who sent your parcel. Use the official carrier links below, or call in at Gale Street Post Office in Syke and we will help you find the right one.

Track an item in three simple steps

1

Find the reference

Use the carrier reference on the receipt, label, email or order history. Keep the receipt until delivery and any claim are complete.

2

Choose the carrier

Match Royal Mail, Parcelforce Worldwide, DPD or Evri to the name on the receipt, label or message.

3

Open the official tracker

Use the carrier card below and follow its prompts. Never share a tracking number publicly.

Track with your carrier

Pick the carrier shown on your receipt, label or despatch email, then enter your reference on their official tracking page. Each link opens in a new tab.

Bought your postage online through Post Office Parcels Online? Use the Parcels Online tracking tool with the reference provided by email, in your order history or on your Post Office receipt.

Amazon parcel or return? Check the tracking or return status in your Amazon account, app or order email. We can scan eligible Amazon codes at the counter, but we cannot change Amazon delivery, collection or refund status.

Protect yourself from tracking scams. Use the official links on this page. Do not enter or speak tracking numbers, payment details or personal information into Tracking Help, and be cautious with unexpected payment or redelivery messages. Royal Mail scam guidance.

Find your tracking number

Your tracking number may be called a reference, barcode or parcel number. It is usually between 9 and 27 characters long.

  • Posted with us: it is printed on the Post Office receipt we gave you at the counter, and on the tear-off part of the label.
  • Waiting on a delivery: check the despatch or shipping email from the retailer, or the text message the carrier sent you.
  • Returning an item: your reference is on the drop-off receipt we printed for you, or in the returns confirmation from the retailer.
  • Use the carrier reference shown on your receipt, email or order history and follow the tracker prompts. A retailer order number is not necessarily the carrier tracking reference, and carriers cannot search by a name or address.

Keep your receipt until delivery and any claim are complete. Proof of posting confirms that an item was accepted, but only a service with a tracking or reference number can provide tracking or delivery confirmation. Royal Mail Signed For and ordinary 1st or 2nd Class parcels are not tracked throughout their journey. If a counter receipt or tear-off label is lost, the reference cannot be recovered from a name or address; online customers should check their confirmation email or order history, and recipients should ask the sender or retailer.

Tracking not updated yet?

Tracking updates are controlled by the carrier. After an item is accepted, scans may not appear straight away, and some services only update at key points in the journey rather than at every step.

  • Allow time for the carrier to scan and process the item, especially after weekends and bank holidays.
  • Check the reference carefully. It is easy to confuse 0 and O, or 1 and I, when copying it by hand.
  • Make sure you are on the right tracker. A Royal Mail or Parcelforce reference will not work on the Evri or DPD pages, and the reverse is also true.
  • If you are the recipient and the item still looks delayed or lost, contact the sender or retailer first; they can make the enquiry with the carrier. If you sent the item, use the relevant carrier help or claims process.

Gale Street Post Office can help you identify the correct tracking page and reference number, but we cannot access, amend or update Royal Mail, Parcelforce Worldwide, DPD or Evri tracking systems at the counter, and we cannot change delivery instructions.

Missed delivery

Use the instructions on the carrier card or message. For Royal Mail and Parcelforce, use the official redelivery service; GSPO cannot reschedule a delivery.

Tracking FAQs

Can I track an item without a reference number or using proof of posting?

You need the carrier tracking or reference number. Proof of posting confirms acceptance, but it only supports tracking when the service includes a tracking or delivery-confirmation reference. Carriers cannot search by a name or address, and a retailer order number is not necessarily the carrier reference.

I have lost my receipt. Can you give me the tracking number?

No. If you posted a Royal Mail or Parcelforce Worldwide item at a Post Office and no longer have the receipt or tear-off label containing the reference, the number cannot be retrieved using your name or address. If you bought postage online, check your confirmation email or order history. If you are the recipient, ask the sender or retailer for the tracking number.

My tracking has not updated. What should I do?

Allow time for the carrier to scan and process the item, especially after weekends or bank holidays. Check the reference and tracker. If you are the recipient and the item still appears delayed or lost, contact the sender or retailer first; if you sent it, use the carrier help or claims process.

Can Gale Street Post Office tell me where my parcel is?

We can help you identify the correct tracker and reference on a receipt. We cannot access carrier scans, locate an item, redirect it, amend delivery instructions or open a recipient claim.

Which tracker do I use for DPD or Evri?

Use the official DPD UK tracker for DPD and the Evri Track a Parcel page for Evri. DPD may ask for a parcel or calling-card number and the delivery postcode. Each tracker only recognises its own references.

What should I do after a missed delivery?

Follow the carrier card, email or text. Royal Mail and Parcelforce redelivery can be arranged through their official redelivery service. Gale Street Post Office cannot reschedule or redirect a carrier delivery.

Tracking says delivered, but I cannot find the item. What should I do?

Check the carrier details, safe place and neighbours first. If the item is still missing, the recipient should contact the sender or retailer; they can follow the carrier enquiry process.

How does international tracking work?

Tracking depends on the service used. Updates may continue on the destination postal operator's website. If no information appears, the recipient should contact the sender so they can enquire with the relevant postal operator.
