⚠️ Important update: BRPs have moved to eVisas
The UK has moved from physical Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) cards to a digital immigration status called an eVisa. Most people now prove their status online using a free UKVI account and a share code instead of a physical card.
- BRP collection at Post Office branches ended on 1 April 2025 (final collection 28 February 2025). Any uncollected BRPs were returned to the Home Office.
- Post Office branches, including Gale Street, cannot apply for an eVisa or give immigration advice.
- An expired BRP can still be used for travel until 31 December 2026, or 24 months after the expiry date on the card — whichever is sooner.
Always check the latest guidance on GOV.UK eVisa.
🪪 What is a BRP?
A Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) was a physical card that showed a person's right to live, work or study in the UK, including their photo, biometric details and the conditions of their stay. BRPs are no longer issued — they have been replaced by digital eVisas.
💻 What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is an online record of your immigration status — there is no physical card. You access it through a free UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account on GOV.UK, where you can view your status and create a share code to prove your rights to employers, landlords and others.
🧭 Setting up your eVisa
If your application has been approved, here is the journey to access your digital status:
