In-Branch Verification

In-Branch Verification in Rochdale

In-Branch Verification is a face-to-face identity checking service at Gale Street Post Office. If an organisation has asked you to confirm your identity in person, our trained counter team can check your original documents and confirm the result electronically — seven days a week, with no appointment needed.

What the service is

Many services now ask you to prove who you are before they can go ahead. Rather than posting valuable documents or booking a special appointment elsewhere, you can bring them to us. We check that your documents are genuine and match the reference your provider has given you, then confirm the verification back to them — usually electronically, while you wait.

We act on behalf of the organisation that asked you to verify your identity. The exact check, and which documents you need, are set by them — we carry out the in-person part at the counter.

Who it’s for

This service is for anyone an organisation has directed to a Post Office to confirm their identity in person — usually after you’ve started an application online and been given a barcode or reference number. Common examples include:

  • Government and GOV.UK identity checks
  • Right-to-work and pre-employment checks
  • DBS / criminal-record checks
  • Tenancy and rental referencing
  • Banking, financial and anti-money-laundering (AML) identity checks
  • Professional or membership registrations

Not sure if we’re the right branch for your check? Just call us on 01706 725399 before you travel.

How it works

1

Apply with your provider

Start your application online with the organisation asking you to verify your identity.

2

Get your barcode or reference

They’ll give you a barcode, QR code or reference number to bring in.

3

Visit Gale Street Post Office

Bring your barcode and your original documents to our counter — no appointment needed.

4

We check and confirm

Our team verifies your documents and confirms the result electronically to your provider.

What to bring

Always follow your provider’s instructions — they tell you exactly which documents are required. As a general guide, please bring:

  • Your barcode, QR code or reference number from the provider
  • Original photo ID — for example a valid passport or UK photocard driving licence
  • Where asked, proof of address such as a recent utility bill or bank statement
  • Any other government-issued ID your provider has listed

Documents must be originals (not photocopies or photos), currently valid, and match the details on your application.
